The BA (Hons) Ceramics in Expanding Practice program champions diversity and inclusiveness in modern ceramic arts, fostering creative experimentation and bold approaches in clay-based works. Spanning from utilitarian items to sculptural pieces, artistic expressions to architectural elements, representational forms to immersive installations, and studio practice to community engagement, today's ceramic arts encompass a growing array of methodologies intersecting with various art and design disciplines. While maintaining clay as its foundation, this program facilitates the investigation and integration of additional artistic mediums and techniques pertinent to evolving studio projects. These may encompass digital media, audio elements, illumination techniques, computer-aided manufacturing, synthetic compounds, various molding substances, timber, metallic components, and beyond.
This curriculum cultivates learners with both specialized and adaptable competencies rooted in material exploration and the creative possibilities of hands-on fabrication. Participants encounter diverse artistic approaches through the simultaneous advancement of conventional workshop abilities and cutting-edge digital production methods, all while receiving guidance to pioneer their unique artistic vision as emerging creators, artisans, and innovators in this dynamic contemporary domain.
Entry into Ceramics is by competition and selection during LC110 First Year Art & Design. Applications will also be considered for direct entry to Year 2 from those with a FETAC Level 6 or relevant prior learning
