Students pursuing a Master's (Research) degree must attain the required proficiency in their chosen discipline (Science, Computing, Engineering, Business, Art and Design). These candidates must meet Level 9 NFQ standards, which represent the highest tier of academic achievement in their field. This level emphasizes demonstrating cutting-edge knowledge, applying expertise in novel situations, and solving complex problems within the subject area. Graduates should exhibit skills in synthesizing information, managing intricate scenarios, and making informed decisions. Level 9 qualifications typically prepare individuals for leadership roles as senior professionals or managers overseeing team outputs. The standard timeframe for completing a Master's (Research) program is typically 21 months (equivalent to two academic years) starting from enrollment in the Master's Register.
You will normally have an honours Bachelor Degree (with a recommended minimum level 2nd Class, Division 1) in a field of study directly related to the subject matter of the Masters Degree.
A candidate holding qualifications different from that specified above may be admitted to a Master Degree programme subject to satisfactory performance in an examination, test or other requirement agreed by the Academic Council on the advice of the Research & Development Committee and a nominated external examiner.
