Information Technology Security focuses on protecting data from unauthorized access and alterations. Cybercrime refers to unlawful actions conducted through technological means. As reliance on technology grows and connections expand between personal, corporate, governmental systems and vital infrastructure, the need for robust IT security becomes more critical. This program seeks to produce graduates well-versed in cybersecurity methodologies, implementation strategies, and evaluation techniques for both IT systems and software, facilitating the creation of secure and adaptable solutions. The curriculum is built upon three foundational areas: software engineering, network systems, and cybersecurity. Students first acquire competencies in constructing computer networks and developing software applications. Subsequent security coursework equips learners to evaluate digital security risks, assess system vulnerabilities, and implement corrective measures for identified security gaps.

Qualification Requirements
Year 1 entry:
Candidates for year 1 entry to our Bachelor Degree programmes must hold a high school completion certificate that comes in at level 5 on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications. All candidates must have completed 12 years of full-time education prior to applying for entry to SETU Carlow. All subjects on the High School Completion Certificate must be successfully passed, with good grades.
Advanced Entry:
SETU Carlow welcomes applications from students who have completed some studies at higher level at other institutions and who wish to transfer onto a Bachelor degree programme at SETU Carlow.
