Civil Engineers create, build, and sustain the infrastructure that forms the foundation of contemporary society. Their work encompasses Roads, Clean Water Systems, Sewage Treatment, Structures, Bridges, Rail Networks, Airports, and Power Plants. A growing focus for Civil Engineers is safeguarding our Natural Environment while developing and maintaining this essential infrastructure sustainably.
Evidence of Civil Engineering is everywhere. Iconic global projects include the Brooklyn Bridge, Hoover Dam, Panama Canal, Ardnacrusha Hydroelectric Plant, Channel Tunnel linking Britain and France, Dubai's Burj Khalifa skyscraper, and London's Underground Network. In Ireland, recent achievements feature the Dublin Port Tunnel, development of the National Motorway System, Dublin's Luas tram network, and the impressive Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Bridge spanning the River Barrow.
