Aircraft systems engineering focuses on maintaining aircraft safety, performance, and operational readiness. Professionals in this field design and improve onboard systems such as flight controls, landing mechanisms, power distribution, hydraulic networks, and avionic equipment. This intensive 3-year program combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on training to prepare graduates for careers in aerospace and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) sectors. The Bachelor of Engineering in Aircraft Systems curriculum immerses students in authentic aviation industry scenarios. SETU Carlow features a dedicated aerospace facility with various fixed-wing and rotary aircraft, a state-of-the-art avionics lab, and an aerofoil testing wind tunnel. These specialized resources create an optimal training environment where students refine both their conceptual understanding and technical skills throughout their studies at SETU Carlow.
Year 1 entry:
Candidates for year 1 entry to our Bachelor Degree programmes must hold a high school completion certificate that comes in at level 5 on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications. All candidates must have completed 12 years of full-time education prior to applying for entry to SETU Carlow. All subjects on the High School Completion Certificate must be successfully passed, with good grades.
Advanced Entry:
SETU Carlow welcomes applications from students who have completed some studies at higher level at other institutions and who wish to transfer onto a Bachelor degree programme at SETU Carlow.
