A quantity surveyor oversees all financial aspects of construction and civil engineering projects, from initial budgeting to final cost assessments. Their role focuses on reducing project expenses while maximizing value, without compromising on quality or standards. Quantity surveyors may be employed by clients or contractors, operating in office settings or directly at construction sites. They participate throughout the project lifecycle, creating cost estimates and managing budgets.
Coursework heavily incorporates hands-on project work, with site visits and field excursions forming essential components.
During work placements, students gain familiarity with professional practices and procedures while observing how theoretical knowledge from their studies applies in real-world scenarios. These placements receive guidance from both MTU academic staff and workplace mentors.
The industrial placement's objective is to expose students to organized employment within their field, helping them comprehend organizational structures, processes, and technologies.
