The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Architecture is a collaborative program between MTU and UCC. This studio-based, project-driven curriculum combines three core elements of architectural training: design, technology, and humanities. The initial year establishes fundamental knowledge in design and the built environment, relevant to architecture and related design fields. Alongside developing drawing techniques, students will acquire expertise in photography, architectural model construction, and digital visualization.
Subsequent years increasingly concentrate on architectural specialization while maintaining opportunities for exploration and interdisciplinary research. The program also cultivates transferable abilities in communication, collaborative work, computer-aided design, and project management.
Fieldwork: Participation in site visits and study tours to locations across Ireland and Europe is required. First-year students should budget approximately €300 for materials, with additional costs of around €300 for model-making supplies and €400 annually for travel expenses plus personal spending.
The CCAE maintains Erasmus exchange partnerships with institutions in Estonia, Austria, and Italy.
This dynamic honors degree program aligns with the UNESCO/UIA Charter for Architectural Education standards, meets the European Qualifications Directive (2005/36/EC) for architectural practice, and complies with the RIAI Education Policy guidelines.
