The DSocSc program is a four-year, practice-oriented doctoral degree provided by Maynooth University's Department of Applied Social Studies. The Department is dedicated to advancing human rights, social justice, and equality both locally and globally. This program equips seasoned professionals in leadership positions within youth work, community development, social work, and rights-focused organizations with advanced research and professional competencies.
The DSocSc program seeks to:

1. reinforce the Department and University's dedication to merging academic excellence with professional training by cultivating adaptable, creative, and highly skilled practitioners capable of enhancing theoretical and practical approaches in youth work, community development, and advocacy for marginalized populations.

2. empower experienced professionals to conduct pioneering, methodical research in youth work, community development, and rights-based settings that advances their respective fields.

Upon completing the DSocSc, graduates will be equipped to:

critically examine and comprehend intricate theoretical, policy, and practical challenges
integrate theory and practice into cohesive praxis
apply sophisticated professional research and assessment techniques
assume leadership roles in promoting rights across diverse organizational and policy environments
conduct, present, and defend a comprehensive doctoral thesis that advances their field of study.
The DSocSc program is founded on four interconnected principles:

scholarly precision and analytical rigor throughout all program components, from coursework to the completion of an independent research project,
the integration of rights-based approaches in both theory and practice across all program elements,
the advancement of theory and practice in community work, youth work, social work, and related social professions,
the establishment of an engaging, collaborative learning environment rooted in reflective, reciprocal, and collegial principles.
