This well-established experimental physics program emphasizes practical applications of core physics principles. Through a combination of lectures, tutorials, and extensive lab and project work, you'll develop both theoretical understanding and valuable hands-on experimental, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. The curriculum offers specialization options including data science, computational physics, and semiconductor studies. During your third year, you'll complete an INTRA work placement in either an industrial or research lab setting. We actively encourage students to pursue summer internships, with many Applied Physics students securing competitive positions both in Ireland and internationally each year. Graduates find opportunities in diverse fields including data science and analytics, advanced technology sectors (like semiconductors and photonics), scientific programming, and research roles in both academic and industrial settings.
