The Higher Diploma in Science (Aviation Finance) equips students with essential expertise and capabilities for careers in aircraft leasing, securitization, and broader financial or aviation sectors.
This comprehensive program explores diverse Aviation Finance subjects while emphasizing practical implementation and regulatory frameworks. It develops hands-on abilities in key domains including financial data analysis, aviation financing, compliance standards, operational processes, and specialized leasing aspects like taxation and insurance. The curriculum builds proficiency in financial technologies and operations while strengthening students' technical competencies.
As a dynamic field, Aviation Finance encompasses multiple disciplines. Collaborating with industry specialists, the program defines it as integrating financial systems, data handling, and technology - spanning project management, risk assessment, cybersecurity, legal frameworks, IT systems, aircraft valuation, lifecycle management, and financial structures. The learning objectives specifically address these components.
With an emphasis on workplace readiness, the program cultivates vital professional attributes like leadership, personal organization, and collaboration - crucial for this fast-evolving sector. The Applied Project module challenges students to investigate real Aviation Finance challenges, devise practical solutions, and critically evaluate their research methodology.
Industry practitioners will deliver guest lectures across all modules, contributing 2-3 hours of specialized insights per subject. Relevant field visits will supplement classroom learning where applicable.
Students gain access to DBS's Finance Society and FinTech Society, along with regular FinTech Breakfast Briefings on campus and other FinTech networking events like the FinTech Ireland Bridge collaboration with FinTech Atlanta.
To be considered for admission to this programme, applicants must hold a minimum full level 7 Bachelor’s Degree in a cognate discipline such as business, finance, engineering, technology or Science, with a minimum pass classification., or a full level 8 Honours Bachelor’s Degree in a non-cognate discipline.
Candidates will be required to have at minimum of Ordinary-Level Leaving Certificate mathematics, or be able to demonstrate competency at an equivalent level.
For applicants whose first language is not English and who have not previously undertaken a degree taught through English, evidence must be provided of proficiency in English language equivalent to B2+ or above on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). This must be evidenced through a recognised English Language test such as IELTS, Cambridge Certificate, PTE or DBS English Assessment. Test certificates should be dated within the last two years to be considered valid.
