The History Graduate Program encourages in-depth exploration of historical inquiries through diverse methodologies. These encompass gender studies, transnational and comparative analysis, along with economic, political, cultural, and social historical perspectives. Renowned for its Canadian history specialization, the program also covers British, Caribbean, European, Latin American, U.S., and East Asian histories, as well as African and African diaspora studies and Greco-Roman history. Key thematic areas include migration studies, Indigenous histories, and environmental history. Students can pursue coursework and guidance in ancient, medieval, early modern, and contemporary historical periods. The program maintains robust connections with York University's research centers, including the Harriet Tubman Institute for African and Diaspora Studies, the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies, and the Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Research.
