The program adopts an interdisciplinary perspective on political studies, emphasizing analytical rigor and societal transformation. Key areas of concentration encompass political economy critiques, social theory analysis, global political challenges, gender-focused political studies, evolution of political philosophy, activism and equity movements, as well as examinations of authority structures and democratic governance. Students can pursue specialized diplomas in governance administration or global security studies, while also having the option to combine other York graduate diplomas with their Political Science MA or PhD degrees.
Faculty members and graduate researchers collaborate with various autonomous research centers at York University, including institutes focused on Asian Studies, Gender Research, European Affairs, Labor Studies, Migration Studies, Latin American/Caribbean Scholarship, and the Robarts Institute for Canadian Research.
