York's Internationally Educated Nurse (IEN) program caters specifically to nurses educated abroad who aren't currently licensed in Ontario. This program is ideal if you're a committed, experienced nurse licensed outside Canada looking to pursue your nursing profession in Ontario. The IEN program can be completed in just 20 months of full-time study, offering English language assistance and mentorship. Upon graduation, you'll earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) and be eligible to sit for the Canadian Registered Nurses Exam. York University's School of Nursing emphasizes the theoretical, scientific, and philosophical foundations of patient care. Its innovative, patient-focused teaching methodology cultivates tomorrow's healthcare leaders in Canada, equipping them for roles as hospital nurses, community health practitioners, public health advocates, nursing leaders, healthcare administrators, or educators. Admission requirements include: - Holding active Registered Nurse licensure in your home country;
- Being an Ontario resident (permanent resident, Canadian citizen, or convention refugee);
- Submitting all required documents and language test scores (if applicable) to York's Admissions Office; and
- Having your nursing education assessed by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as equivalent to at least a diploma level. Graduates from York's School of Nursing gain comprehensive expertise across various nursing fields, including hospital and community healthcare, public health initiatives, and the expanding health services management sector. The program provides foundational knowledge for roles as clinical leaders, educators, or administrators. Student Opportunities Put theory into practice through immersive training in our Nursing Simulation Centre, Skills Lab, and Computer Simulation Lab. Engage with the community through the TD Community Engagement Centre (TDCEC), where nursing students assist local residents with Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) appeals by helping craft strong cases, connecting them with support services, and advocating throughout the process.
