The York University School of Nursing prepares graduates to emerge as visionary leaders committed to continuous discovery and lifelong learning. Our innovative curriculum employs transformative educational approaches that merge theoretical knowledge with practical application, cultivating thoughtful, reflective practitioners dedicated to advancing health equity through nursing excellence. The program emphasizes interprofessional collaboration and critical thinking, culminating in a capstone nursing course paired with a final practicum. Students develop skills in patient advocacy, leadership, and collaborative care through experiences designed to deepen expertise, sharpen analytical abilities, and support ongoing professional growth.
Our BScN program features optional specialized streams in the 4-Year Direct Entry and 2nd Entry pathways, focusing on key healthcare areas such as leadership in elder care, mental health nursing, and acute/critical care specialties.
Upon completion, graduates earn a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) and qualify to take the provincial nursing registration examination. To practice as Registered Nurses, graduates must demonstrate essential competencies across cognitive, communicative, interpersonal, and technical domains while meeting all regulatory college standards. Note: We do not accept transfer students from other nursing programs into our undergraduate offerings.
Our exclusive 4-Year Direct Entry Program, conducted entirely at York's Keele campus, serves students without prior nursing education. This intensive full-time program (with no part-time alternative) spans four consecutive years, with graduates receiving their degrees at the annual Spring convocation ceremony.
