Develop the scientific expertise needed to make a difference in environmental challenges. Environmental Science integrates multiple scientific fields to address critical questions about ecological concerns.
Acquire practical skills through immersive experiences - York's Environmental Science program features a mandatory Research Design & Field Study course where you'll work with professional equipment. This includes a multi-day field trip to Algonquin Park's Frost Centre for hands-on project work. You'll master water, soil, and climate monitoring tools along with geographic information systems - skills directly applicable to careers with agencies like the Meteorological Service of Canada and Environment Canada.
Our faculty researchers investigate diverse topics including Arctic plant survival, the Oak Ridges Moraine, and peatlands' role in the Greenhouse Effect. York boasts one of Canada's most advanced indoor flumes for studying water dynamics and river formations.
