In an era of growing global interconnectedness, where human actions increasingly impact ecosystems worldwide—often negatively—it's crucial to possess the awareness, expertise, and practical skills to tackle these challenges. Environmental awareness, conservation, and restoration have become vital priorities in modern society. Langara College's Environmental Studies program, housed within the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, integrates knowledge from four key disciplines: biology, chemistry, English, and geography, along with specialized environmental courses. Students can select electives from diverse subjects to align with their individual interests, culminating in a week-long field school at the conclusion of their second year.
This interdisciplinary program equips students with comprehensive knowledge of Earth's physical systems and the societal factors influencing human-environment interactions. Participants develop critical thinking abilities, analytical skills, heightened environmental awareness, and both local and global perspectives—essential tools for solving intricate environmental problems.
Students must have a BC Grade 12 Graduation (or equivalent).
