For those aspiring to teach music privately or in elementary/secondary schools, our Music Education program provides comprehensive training. You'll learn to create lesson plans from curriculum guidelines, integrate classroom technology, evaluate student progress, and manage classrooms effectively. The curriculum also covers fundamental conducting skills, instrumental/choral methods, and the principles of music education, while allowing space for a secondary teaching subject.
Our Music Education courses are led by renowned music experts and practicing school educators. Through Laurier's Student Association of Music Educators (SAME), you can gain hands-on experience by volunteering in local schools. SAME members attend the Ontario Music Educators' Association conference and participate in various educational and social activities. The program includes weekly lessons, masterclasses, and ensemble participation.
Key Benefits
Top-performing music students may qualify for guaranteed admission to Laurier's Bachelor of Education program upon graduation, provided they maintain a B average and meet standard admission criteria.
