PhD candidates follow a structured curriculum culminating in a significant, innovative research project focused on ancient Greek and Roman literature, history, and material culture. The program is divided into multiple phases to guarantee students develop comprehensive expertise across classical studies while deepening their specialization in their chosen dissertation topic. Our expanding cohort of doctoral researchers pursues diverse academic investigations under the guidance of distinguished faculty mentors. Throughout the program, students complete various examinations, including assessments in Greek and Latin translation, modern scholarly languages (German, French, Italian), comprehensive knowledge evaluations, and a specialized field exam preparing them for their doctoral dissertation.

MA degree in Classics Obtained a GPA of at least 80 percent Substantial training in ancient Greek or Latin normally 5 years of one language 4 of the other In exceptional cases there is a possibility for direct entry to the PhD program these decisions are made at the discretion of the Graduate Admissions Committee of the Department The Test of English as a Foreign Language TOEFL Minimum acceptable score is 550 for the paper and pencil version Westerns TOEFL ID is 0984 The International English Language Testing Service IELTS Academic Minimum acceptable score is 6 out of 9
