Earth Sciences explores our planet's complex systems. We investigate Earth's inner makeup and structure; its active nature (seismic events, volcanic activity, continental movement); internal mechanisms; surface-shaping forces and crustal materials; relationships between surface processes, climate patterns, and ecological balance; the discovery, distribution, extraction, and preservation of natural resources (minerals, energy sources, land formations, and water supplies); Earth's position in our solar system, and the evolution of life through geological time.
Western University's Earth Sciences Department fosters a collaborative, vibrant community that blends advanced theoretical and practical research with exceptional mentorship and education for all students. Our alumni hold positions in private sectors, research institutions, and public agencies throughout Canada and internationally. Visit us in the Biological and Geological Sciences Building to discover the exciting opportunities in Earth Sciences.
