The shared first-year curriculum ensures you and your peers study identical courses, giving you exposure to multiple engineering fields before choosing a specialization. Following this foundational year, you'll select one of our nine degree programs. Throughout this initial year, you'll tackle authentic engineering challenges while building core competencies for advanced studies and discovering diverse engineering domains. This approach empowers you to make an informed decision about specializing in one of our engineering programs.

Even if you arrive at Western Engineering with a preferred specialization in mind, many students reconsider their career paths after experiencing various engineering disciplines during the first year. Exploring different fields before committing to a major ultimately proves more time-efficient.

Additionally, you'll forge strong connections with your first-year peers. These relationships often endure throughout your academic journey and continue into your professional life.
