Sociology examines human social relationships, cultural patterns, and societal transformations. Researchers in this field analyze how institutions, communities, and social systems function, along with interpersonal dynamics across various settings. The discipline explores diverse topics ranging from personal relationships to collective behavior; from ecological movements to spiritual practices; including examinations of ethnicity, Indigenous cultures, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.
The Sociology Specialization offers a non-honors track for learners wishing to concentrate on sociological studies through the department's four key focus areas (Authority and Equity, Labor and Economic Systems, Wellbeing Across the Lifespan, and Population Studies and Human Mobility). Participants in this program gain practical expertise by employing their knowledge in research methodologies, theoretical frameworks, communication skills, public speaking, and policy analysis during advanced coursework.
