Earth Sciences explores our planet's complex systems. This field examines Earth's internal makeup and structure; its active nature (including seismic events, volcanic activity, and continental movement); the mechanisms operating within it; the forces molding its exterior and the substances forming its outer layers; the relationships between surface phenomena, climate patterns, and ecological balance; the formation, distribution, extraction, and preservation of Earth's natural assets (minerals, energy sources, soils, and water supplies); Earth's position in our solar system, and the evolution of life on our planet.
Western University's Earth Sciences Department fosters a collaborative, vibrant community that blends advanced theoretical and practical research with exceptional guidance and instruction for both graduate and undergraduate students. Our alumni hold positions in various sectors including private industry, academic institutions, and public service throughout Canada and internationally.
