Our English programs explore diverse literary traditions, including Global, Indigenous, British, Canadian, and American works. Spanning from classic texts like Beowulf and Shakespeare to contemporary voices such as Dionne Brand and Marilyn Dumont, our curriculum engages students in current discussions about literature, theory, and cultural studies. Learners cultivate essential research techniques, analytical frameworks, and communication abilities that prove valuable across various professional paths after graduation.

Students may pursue the English Major through either Honours or standard degree programs. For those in three- or four-year non-honors programs, this major offers strong foundations for diverse careers including journalism, publishing, creative writing, advertising, public relations, and government work.

Within an Honors Double Major structure, this program suits undergraduates seeking balanced study across two disciplines. This option particularly benefits future educators needing two teachable subjects or students aiming for interdisciplinary graduate studies in areas like media studies, gender studies, or critical theory. (While English Honors Double Majors often qualify for English graduate programs, the Honors Specialization remains the preferred route.)

Combining English with another field through an Honors Double Major creates versatile career opportunities. Aspiring sports journalists might pair English with Kinesiology, while future political analysts could combine English with Political Science studies.
