The Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences recognizes the significance of your personal goals and ambitions, appreciating that they're as distinctive as each individual.
In the fields of statistical sciences, actuarial studies, and financial modeling, you'll gather, examine, and interpret data using mathematical frameworks and computational tools. We foster strong connections and collaboration among students and professors. You'll find faculty offices, most classrooms, and one of the university's most advanced computer labs on the second floor of the Western Science Centre (also known as Paterson Building). The Actuarial & Statistical Undergraduate Association (ASUA) coordinates educational workshops, collaborative study sessions, and networking activities.
Actuaries are certified professionals specializing in developing and managing insurance and retirement plans, with expertise in risk evaluation. These professionals utilize mathematical and statistical methods to solve diverse financial challenges. Under Canadian legislation, an actuary is formally recognized as a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
