Eligibility for VIU's Visual Art Diploma requires students to complete 60 credits with at least a 1.84 GPA. Among these credits, 45 must be from the Art Department, including 6 credits of Art History where students must achieve a minimum "C" grade. Transfer credits from other institutions may be available for advanced students.
Important: Before accessing department facilities, all students taking studio courses in VIU's Art and Design program must attend compulsory safety training. Additionally, students are required to purchase and use department-approved equipment available at the VIU Campus Store.

Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Proof of English Language proficiency is required from any country or citizen where English is not the official or first language.
For students who meet the academic requirements but not the English language requirement, conditional acceptance to VIU may be granted. In this case, admission is granted pending completion of VIU’s English Language Centre program (level AP5 for undergrad and Grad Prep for Graduate programs). Exceptions may apply.
International students who are BC high school graduates must have a minimum grade of “C” in English 12 for direct entry into an academic program.
