What makes studying directing at a liberal arts school such as the University of Winnipeg so valuable is that becoming a great director requires deep understanding of social and artistic heritage, sharp research abilities, and an insatiable desire to discover artistic expressions beyond the stage. The diverse curriculum at the University of Winnipeg equips aspiring directors with the comprehensive skills and insights needed to thrive in this profession. Our most successful directing students typically engage with multiple art forms - they might be practicing musicians, skilled dancers, or visual artists. Many have a deep interest in cinema. They're also enthusiastic consumers and creators of both literary and factual writing. It's through blending these different artistic disciplines that directors develop their unique perspective. Due to the intensive nature of directing, we don't provide a standard BA program in this discipline. We firmly believe the complete four-year Honours BA is essential to equip future directors with the expertise necessary for this demanding career. Advanced students can enroll in specialized devised theater courses and earn credits by assisting with productions either on campus or through our community collaborations.
