VIU's Recreation and Sport Management program prepares you for exciting opportunities in the expanding fields of sports, recreation, health, and wellness.

This program follows a required Co-operative Education structure, combining four academic terms with two paid Co-op work terms.

This diploma emphasizes delivering recreation and sport services across public, private, and nonprofit community organizations. Students learn to evaluate how recreation and sports influence environments to foster healthier communities. Program highlights include practical skill development, hands-on leadership opportunities, the co-op education approach (with paid positions), and personalized learning environments.

While designed for immediate career entry, graduates can continue their education by transferring into the third year of VIU's Bachelor of Tourism Management, Recreation Major.

Qualification Requirements

Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Proof of English Language proficiency is required from any country or citizen where English is not the official or first language.

For students who meet the academic requirements but not the English language requirement, conditional acceptance to VIU may be granted. In this case, admission is granted pending completion of VIU’s English Language Centre program (level AP5 for undergrad and Grad Prep for Graduate programs). Exceptions may apply.

International students who are BC high school graduates must have a minimum grade of “C” in English 12 for direct entry into an academic program.

Recommendation for Admission

History of leadership, active involvement in recreation and sport pursuits, and experience working with people of varying ages and interests.

To meet the English language requirements for academic program, students must have completed:

Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English with a minimum Cambridge English Score of 176.
