This curriculum offers an ideal mix of theoretical knowledge and hands-on training in the early childhood field. Academic components explore contemporary studies and methodologies, while practicum placements allow students to establish valuable professional relationships in early childhood education. The Early Childhood Education and Care program equips learners with essential competencies for supporting young children and their families in regulated childcare environments. Through a carefully structured sequence of coursework and practical training, students develop both theoretical understanding and self-awareness while gaining real-world experience as emerging Early Childhood Educators. The program accommodates both part-time and full-time enrollment options.

English 12 with a minimum “C” grade, or equivalent.
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Proof of English Language proficiency is required from any country or citizen where English is not the official or first language.
For students who meet the academic requirements but not the English language requirement, conditional acceptance to VIU may be granted. In this case, admission is granted pending completion of VIU’s English Language Centre program (level AP5 for undergrad and Grad Prep for Graduate programs). Exceptions may apply.
International students who are BC high school graduates must have a minimum grade of “C” in English 12 for direct entry into an academic program.
