Those pursuing the diploma need to enroll in the Bachelor of Arts program with a Criminology major. Before finishing their initial year, students should declare their intention to graduate with the Criminology Diploma.
Criminology is a multidisciplinary field examining legal systems, judicial rulings, crime trends, theories of deviant behavior, and societal responses to criminal acts. The curriculum covers criminal law fundamentals, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and significant court rulings. Learners study the key elements of the justice system—law enforcement, judicial processes, and rehabilitation systems. The program analyzes crime patterns and contributing factors such as age, race, gender, and socioeconomic status, while investigating historical, psychological, and societal explanations for criminal behavior. The coursework integrates perspectives from various Social Sciences and Humanities disciplines.
This program equips students with analytical, practical, and ethical competencies for careers requiring legal and justice expertise. The curriculum fosters professional abilities like ethical decision-making, conflict resolution, technological research methods, effective communication, and collaborative work. While focusing on justice-related topics, the program's skillset also proves valuable in private sector roles demanding research proficiency, legal evaluation, project coordination, and strong communication abilities.
After completing the first two years with a minimum 2.00 GPA, eligible students may request their Diploma.
