This Certificate program attracts students aiming to pursue law school or advanced studies in legal and policy fields, as well as professionals seeking careers involving substantial legal matters. The curriculum combines foundational courses that enhance writing, speaking, and analytical abilities with specialized law-focused classes.
Primarily tailored for current or prospective Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Business Administration students, this program allows participants to choose from diverse courses aligning with their interests and degree specializations. Certificate credits may count toward major, minor, or bachelor's degree requirements, following standard academic regulations.
To earn the credential, students must fulfill the University's English proficiency requirement and complete 30 credits across four categories: Canadian Legal System Foundations (6 credits), Primary Source Analysis and Argumentation (6 credits), Core Law (6 credits), and Legal Policy (12 credits).
While courses are drawn from multiple departments, enrollment isn't guaranteed for certificate students. Departments maintain individual registration policies and seating restrictions, and some courses require prerequisites. Students must verify they meet all prerequisites before registration and are advised to consult with the Legal Studies Coordinator and relevant instructors about enrollment options.
