The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program explores the scientific study of human behavior, examining thought processes, emotions, biological factors, and cognitive functions.
VIU's Psychology program offers diverse specializations including sports psychology, child psychology, and addiction studies, blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on research training through a research-practitioner approach.
Earning a Psychology degree equips graduates to pursue advanced studies in psychology or launch careers in education, social services, healthcare, non-profits, and other fields that prioritize analytical thinking and behavioral insight.
The Psychology Major introduces students to four core psychological disciplines, helping them comprehend the foundations of thought and behavior. The program also develops essential skills in social research, data analysis, and interpersonal communication. Combining academic knowledge with practical application aligns with the research-practitioner framework, merging foundational studies with real-world implementation. Although this undergraduate program doesn't qualify graduates to practice as licensed psychologists (which requires doctoral studies and provincial certification), it provides strong preparation for related professions and serves as the initial stage toward professional accreditation.
Prospective Psychology majors in high school should consider taking Grade 12 Mathematics and Biology courses to prepare for their studies.
