Geography explores the relationships between Earth's spaces and locations. Experts in this field examine how physical and human elements are arranged across the planet, along with humanity's significant influence on natural ecosystems. Geographers prioritize conserving sustainable environments and responsibly overseeing essential resources like land, water, and air. Through the lenses of place and landscape, they analyze how cultural factors shape both urban and rural areas. By studying political, social, and economic trends through spatial and historical viewpoints, learners gain insight into the ever-changing nature of local and regional environments.
The Geography B.A. Major offers three pathways: Sustainable Resource Management, Urban and Social Sustainability, or a General track that covers both physical and human geography. Each specialization enhances communication abilities through verbal, written, and visual methods while developing practical skills in spatial analysis, remote sensing, and GIS technology. The curriculum encourages analytical thinking, problem-solving, and conflict resolution, especially regarding natural resource conservation and urban community development.
The Geography B.A. Minor allows customization to align with academic or professional aspirations. This discipline qualifies as a teachable subject for secondary education in British Columbia.
