The Master of Marriage and Family Therapy (MMFT) program has a long-standing history, with its inaugural graduates completing their studies in 1992. A key feature of the MMFT is its strong emphasis on clinical practice. At the heart of the curriculum lies the requirement for each student to complete 500 supervised therapy hours, primarily at the Aurora Family Therapy Centre situated on The University of Winnipeg campus. This clinical orientation is further reinforced by the fact that all faculty members maintain active therapy practices, while all supervisors hold approval status or are pursuing certification with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
Designed with flexibility in mind, the program accommodates part-time students, making it ideal for both working professionals seeking specialization in marriage and family therapy and newcomers to the field who require time to grow as therapists.
Our diverse student population includes individuals from various walks of life, many with previous experience in helping professions. We also welcome those pursuing family therapy as their initial career path, mid-career changers, and retirees fulfilling their aspirations to obtain therapeutic qualifications. Our institution upholds a non-discrimination policy and celebrates diversity in all forms, including ethnic background and sexual orientation. This varied learning environment reflects our multicultural society and enhances the hands-on educational experience for all participants.
