The Philosophy Department at The University of Winnipeg maintains a unique tradition among Manitoba's institutions by focusing on teaching philosophy through historical perspectives. Learners engage with philosophical works spanning all eras and diverse global traditions. This approach enables students to explore varied responses to philosophical inquiries while tracing the roots of concepts that shape modern thought about ourselves and society. Philosophy fosters analytical reasoning and the pursuit of wisdom, helping us comprehend the human experience. Beyond theory, philosophy has tangible applications, evident in discussions about environmental ethics, intergenerational responsibility, socioeconomic equality, gender fairness, the science-religion dialogue, and similar issues. Through philosophy, we learn to recognize and uphold our most cherished personal values.
