The History Department at the University of Winnipeg brings together a vibrant group of scholars, professors, and students at all levels who share a passion for exploring our collective past. Our academic programs cover an extensive spectrum of historical periods and geographic regions, from local Winnipeg narratives to global perspectives spanning Canada, the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Historians preserve and analyze history by studying diverse sources including documents, oral accounts, artifacts, and visual materials. We seek to comprehend historical transformations while acknowledging the intricate social dynamics and past inequities. As a history student, you'll investigate influential figures who fundamentally altered worldviews, alongside examining ordinary individuals striving to control their own futures. Our curriculum provides insights into cross-cultural interactions and evolving societal concepts of race, gender, and social class. You'll develop critical perspectives on historical processes like colonization, decolonization, systemic oppression, and movements of resistance.
You are a current high school student studying at a school in another Canadian province, and expect to graduate from grade 12 (or equivalent).
