The University of Winnipeg's Criminal Justice program examines societal approaches to addressing unlawful behavior and violations, covering various aspects of policing, judicial processes, and rehabilitation systems. This interdisciplinary social science program equips students with essential analytical, writing, and investigative abilities.
Our curriculum delivers both historical context and contemporary studies about Canada's justice framework, explores theories behind criminal behavior, establishes social theory fundamentals, examines law's societal function, and evaluates diverse viewpoints on discipline and regulation. Learners are encouraged to critically analyze justice concepts and optimal implementation methods. They'll gain expertise in ongoing justice system discussions, including balancing public safety with legal protections, punitive measures versus rehabilitation, addressing miscarriages of justice, system improvement versus dismantlement, colonial legacies, systemic discrimination, alternative justice models, governmental authority boundaries, negative consequences of justice policies, challenges faced by affected parties, and official reactions to nonconformity.
