The Political Science department provides two dynamic graduate study options: an M.A. program that typically takes one year (September to September) to finish, involving coursework plus either a substantial research paper or thesis; and an M.A. internship track that blends academic coursework with a 6-month paid placement for practical experience.
The Department ensures financial support packages that equal or surpass competing MA programs.
Every M.A. student gets to undertake a significant research initiative on a topic they select. Whether choosing the research paper, internship report, or thesis path, students enhance their ability to design, structure, and execute extensive projects that refine their investigative and writing capabilities. Both the research paper and thesis options conclude with an oral defense, equipping students with valuable presentation skills for future doctoral studies, legal education, or public sector roles.
Those in the M.A. internship program must submit an internship report, which they present at a public forum after completing their placement. While similar in structure to the research paper and thesis formats described later, the internship report is more concise (around 25 pages), must address a public policy matter, and includes the department's internship coordinator as an internal evaluator.
