Ph.D. candidates must successfully pass an oral comprehensive exam during their initial year in the program. This assessment involves a 10-20 minute presentation of the student's current research, followed by a Q&A session evaluating their expertise in the research field and foundational chemical/biochemical concepts.
Upon approval from the doctoral committee, each student will defend their dissertation in a final oral examination.
Our Department fosters a dynamic research environment spanning all Chemistry and Biochemistry disciplines. The newly established Centre Of Research (CORe) features advanced laboratories for Materials and Health Sciences, along with analytical facilities equipped with cutting-edge instruments for our research initiatives. Although technical support is available, graduate students are expected to develop practical skills using our instrumentation, including IRRaman spectroscopy, HPLC, multinuclear NMR, and X-ray diffraction. Graduates of recognized universities may apply for admission. In general, admission to graduate study is granted only to those students who have good academic records and who are adequately prepared to undertake graduate work in their field of specialization. In particular, an applicant for admission to a graduate program leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy must have either a Master's degree or, in exceptional cases, a four-year Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent; with a minimum average of 77% (or equivalent). Possession of the minimum requirements does not ensure admission.
