Our program brings ancient civilizations to vivid reality with an adventure that would rival Indiana Jones' exploits. Journey to Greece to participate in archaeological excavations, explore iconic historical sites, and immerse yourself in living history. You'll gain comprehensive knowledge of Greco-Roman civilization—covering language, literature, art, architecture, philosophy, governance, science, medicine, mythology, and religion—within a supportive academic community where faculty are invested in your achievements.
The Greek and Roman Studies curriculum offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures (Département de langues, littératures et cultures) encompasses all facets of classical antiquity. This inherently multidisciplinary approach fosters diverse skills and deep understanding across linguistic, literary, historical, archaeological, philosophical, mythological, and religious studies.
Our program focuses on the formative eras of Greek and Roman civilization, when these societies actively grappled with fundamental questions: What defines citizenship, family, or divinity? How do we understand art, law, freedom, or nature? What forms can human expression take? These timeless inquiries remain critically relevant in contemporary North American society. By studying these ancient cultures—so different from our own—we gain perspective to better navigate modern life and its challenges.
