The MMath program includes approximately one year of advanced coursework along with either a faculty-supervised research project or thesis. Combinatorics examines the properties of discrete systems and their configurations. Contemporary scientific breakthroughs frequently utilize combinatorial models to represent physical phenomena, with computational advancements enabling practical exploration of these concepts. Given that digital systems operate on discrete information, combinatorics has become essential to computing. Optimization, also known as mathematical programming, focuses on finding maximum and minimum values of functions within defined parameters. The digital revolution sparked significant theoretical developments in optimization, enriching both combinatorial mathematics and traditional analysis. These optimization techniques apply to engineering, physical sciences, business management, and diverse mathematical disciplines.
