The University of Waterloo's MA in Global Governance program breaks free from traditional academic constraints by integrating multiple disciplines such as economics, political science, history, sociology, and environmental studies. This 16-month program includes two terms of coursework, a third term dedicated to a Major Research Paper (MRP) on a global governance topic of the student's choice, and a fourth term featuring an internship with organizations addressing global governance challenges. Exchange programs further enrich the student experience. The curriculum addresses pressing worldwide issues like peacekeeping, humanitarian emergencies, economic disparities, and environmental transformations.

The Conflict and Security Research Cluster brings together scholars from diverse fields including political science, history, geography, sociology, education, and economics (with expanding connections to STEM researchers). This initiative strengthens connections among BSIA students and faculty engaged in conflict studies, promotes discussions on critical security challenges, and supports interdisciplinary research collaborations. Through academic projects, events, and publications, the cluster aims to establish BSIA's reputation as a premier global hub for peace, conflict, and security studies.
