The University of Waterloo pioneered Canada's first MASc and PhD programs in Nanotechnology. This cross-disciplinary initiative, delivered through three Science and four Engineering departments, creates a dynamic learning atmosphere that bridges fundamental research with practical implementation. Designed to foster broad perspectives, the program enables students to explore nanotechnology through diverse academic viewpoints both within and beyond their core disciplines. The MASc track equips graduates with robust nano-engineering expertise for professional careers or advanced doctoral studies, while focusing on four research pillars: nanomaterials, nano-electronics development, nano-devices, and nano-biosystems. The PhD curriculum prepares scholars for academic positions, industrial research roles, and government laboratory opportunities.
