Social Psychology developed to examine social movements, inequality, division, prejudice, and cultural conflicts. Its fundamental principle focuses on the reciprocal relationship between culture and cognition, demonstrating how societal influences and personal traits affect human thinking, feelings, and actions. Waterloo serves as the founding hub of Social Psychology in Canada, with our graduates playing key roles in research-focused universities nationwide (and internationally), as well as in prominent government and corporate roles. Waterloo's Social Psychology program fosters a cooperative and forward-thinking research atmosphere. Students often collaborate with several professors, pursue diverse research projects, and employ advanced experimental, survey, computational, or biological measurement techniques. Numerous chances exist for students to share discoveries during weekly discussions, lab sessions, and academic conferences. Ranked among North America's elite programs, we tackle significant societal issues—whether in personal connections, communities, or broader cultural shifts. Our approach combines creativity, state-of-the-art techniques, and cross-disciplinary perspectives. Partnering with industries and analyzing large datasets, we explore ambitious, under-researched problems to enhance human welfare.
