The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science ranks among the world's leading institutions in these fields, with over 50 full-time faculty members engaged in cutting-edge research across various disciplines. Our academic offerings include undergraduate, graduate, and PhD programs in Statistics and Actuarial Science, along with several collaborative degree options with other departments. We foster an energetic research culture spanning fundamental statistical theory, longitudinal data analysis, computational methods, financial mathematics, risk assessment, survey methodology, industrial applications, and interdisciplinary projects. The department maintains strong ties with campus research centers such as WatRISQ (Waterloo Research Institute in Insurance, Securities and Quantitative Finance), BISRG (Business and Industrial Research Group), PROPEL (Propel Centre for Population Health Impact), CCMIC (Centre for Computational Mathematics in Industry and Commerce), SRC (Survey Research Centre), and numerous other collaborative initiatives.
