The Kinesiology program focuses on the scientific examination of human motion to enhance wellness and avoid disease and harm. This curriculum establishes a strong base in anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, nutrition, and neuroscience, supplemented by biology, chemistry, and physics classes from the Science department. Emphasizing hands-on learning, skills are honed through diverse lab sessions, specialized facilities, practical assignments, and intensive practicum courses covering sports injury evaluation, cardiac recovery, and motion analysis. As part of one of North America's most extensive kinesiology departments, students can select from specialized electives, gaining expertise in fields like gait studies, high-altitude and aviation physiology, motor skill development, or spinal conditions. Assist an aspiring Olympian in rehabilitating from ligament damage. Reduce occupational hazards by refining workplace ergonomics. Improve daily living for children with cerebral palsy. Master techniques to prevent and address movement-related health issues – with the co-op option offering 20 months of paid professional experience. Beyond core science classes in biomechanics, neuroscience, and physiology, you can select from four kinesiology-focused minors or numerous university-wide minors. The program also offers preparatory courses for healthcare careers like medicine and physical therapy.
