The Water Science program equips students with essential skills and expertise to tackle worldwide water-related issues such as shortages, quality control, and resource management. This distinctive curriculum adopts a holistic method, merging earth sciences with physical, chemical, biological, and managerial water studies to give students comprehensive knowledge for solving interdisciplinary problems. The program examines water's availability, purity, circulation, and environmental movement.
Career opportunities: Managing water resources and addressing environmental water issues.
Gain strong foundations in chemistry and biology while having ample flexibility to study environment-focused subjects like ecology, aquatic systems, geology, hydrology, and beyond. Topics include climate change, groundwater dynamics and pollution, ecological effects of contaminants, sustainable resource extraction, waste management, and human influence on Earth's systems.
Opt for the Ecology specialization to study ecological balance and biodiversity while mastering core life science principles. Select the Geoscience path to examine relationships between Earth's spheres—geological, water, atmospheric, and biological—alongside human impacts within our planet's intricate systems.
Alternatively, pursue the Water Science concentration to explore water's distinctive characteristics; freshwater and seawater distribution across Earth's surface, subsurface, and atmosphere; and the vital water conditions humanity requires for survival and prosperity.
Whichever path you select—whether gaining professional experience through co-op or not—you'll join one of Canada's top four environmental science programs (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023). You'll graduate with the scientific understanding, innovation, and skills necessary to build a greener future.
