Explore the strength, beauty, methodology, and purpose of mathematics. This intensive program spans the full range of mathematical disciplines—from ancient to contemporary—encompassing geometry, number theory, and logical reasoning. With Pure Mathematics courses being some of the most intimate and tightly-knit in the Mathematics Faculty, you'll build close relationships with peers and professors alike. (Professors who conduct pioneering research outside lecture hours.) The co-op program offers valuable paid work experience. Pure Mathematics equips you with analytical abilities applicable across industries, businesses, government sectors, or advanced academic pursuits. Enhance your credentials through research. By applying for an Undergraduate Student Research Award, you could dedicate four months to paid pure mathematics research alongside a faculty member. Connect with fellow math enthusiasts. The Pure Math Club hosts both academic and social gatherings, from faculty-student networking events and mathematical competitions to game evenings and shared meals. This honors program offers a comprehensive mathematical education focused on theoretical concepts and abstract thinking. The curriculum allows flexibility for students to explore subjects beyond mathematics, and while not mandatory, many choose to pair Honours Pure Mathematics with a secondary focus. Numerous program alumni pursue graduate studies. Combining pure mathematics with another mathematical field proves fulfilling for many students. The Joint Pure Mathematics track involves fewer challenging courses than the Honours version while maintaining its theoretical focus. This program must be paired with another major.
