Explore how recreational activities can enhance life quality for all individuals, including those with physical or developmental disabilities, seniors, long-term care patients, and at-risk youth. Waterloo's Therapeutic Recreation (TR) program—one of just three in Ontario—teaches you to create inclusive leisure programs for diverse abilities. You'll also apply your learning during co-op placements available through the co-op option. Upon graduation, you'll possess the expertise to create meaningful change. As a recreation therapist, your designed programs could help prevent youth substance abuse, enable elderly independence, enhance stroke patients' recovery, and beyond. Gain extensive practical experience through hands-on courses, volunteer work, and a mandatory fourth-year internship. This program stands alone in Ontario by offering multiple co-op opportunities.
