The Border Services program equips students with essential knowledge and practical training for those pursuing careers as border services officers. The first year establishes a strong theoretical base, covering human relations, mental health, interpersonal communication, teamwork, and an introduction to the criminal justice system. In the second year, the curriculum shifts to specialized topics, including assessing admissibility of individuals, goods, and vehicles entering Canada, along with relevant laws, documentation, and border-crossing technologies. Students also develop crucial abilities in communication, conflict resolution, and analytical reasoning—key competencies for safeguarding Canada's borders. The program includes certifications in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention from the Crisis Prevention Institute and Incident Management System basics (IMS-100) from Emergency Management Ontario. Designed to deliver comprehensive preparation, the Border Services program not only readies graduates for public safety roles but also serves as a stepping stone for further education in related disciplines. The criminal justice lab provides hands-on learning, allowing students to apply classroom concepts in realistic environments. Through Lambton College's Safe Walk initiative, participants can accumulate volunteer hours and field experience. The faculty comprises experts from diverse backgrounds, including law enforcement, border security, and related professions. Select courses adopt an interdisciplinary approach, enabling first responder students from different specialties to collaborate in both classroom and simulated scenarios. With small class sizes and immersive learning opportunities, the program ensures a high-quality educational journey.
