Our language-focused program prioritizes Spanish fluency, covering comprehension, conversation, reading, and writing, with specialized offerings in business communication and translation. The University of Waterloo's Hispanic student organization provides opportunities to hone conversational abilities with fellow learners. Another option is concentrating on Latin American Literature and Culture, where you'll explore the region's significant artistic and intellectual movements from ancient civilizations to modern times while refining your research capabilities. A Spanish degree unlocks diverse career paths post-graduation, spanning commerce, education, global affairs, and development work. Enhance your qualifications by participating in our cooperative education program. The majority of our students pursue Honours or Major degrees in Spanish, while some combine it with other disciplines through double honours programs. We provide both three-year General and four-year degree options, allowing students to specialize in language studies or literary analysis—with the latter offering concentrations in either Latin American or Peninsular literature. The Honours program permits Spanish as either a standalone focus or paired with another field, and students can also pursue an Honours Major in Spanish through the cooperative Arts and Business program.
